Power of a Name

Apr 26, 2026    Pastor Paul

There are many names that God is know by. Yahweh / YHWH: The personal name of God, frequently translated as "Lord," meaning "I AM WHO I AM".

Elohim: Means God or Mighty Creator, highlighting His power, often used in Genesis 1.

Adonai: Translates to "Lord" or "Master," emphasizing God's authority.

El Shaddai: "God Almighty" or "God of Power," highlighting His sufficiency.

El Elyon: "Most High God".

El Roi: "The God Who Sees Me".

Jehovah (Yahweh) Combinations:

Jehovah-Jireh: The Lord Will Provide.

Jehovah-Shalom: The Lord is Peace.

Jehovah-Rapha: The Lord who Heals.

Jehovah-Nissi: The Lord my Banner/Miracle.

Jehovah-Raah: The Lord my Shepherd.

Jehovah-Shammah: The Lord is There.

Jehovah-Tsidkenu: The Lord Our Righteousness

Likewise there are names that God has given us.

Beloved: Deeply loved by God (Romans 1:7).

Chosen/Elect: Selected by God to be His own people (1 Thessalonians 1:4).

Friend: Jesus calls His followers friends, not slaves (John 15:15).

Child of God/Son/Daughter: Adopted into His family, allowing us to call him Abba, Father (Romans 8:16-17, 2 Corinthians 6:18).

Heir: Heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17).

Beloved Children: Ephesians 5:1.

Saint: Set apart for God

I would like to suggest that there is a name that is most dear to God, Friend.

When you hear certain names, they will illicit a conclusion about that person. When you hear Bubba, you might think he is a goofy fun loving guy. Conversely, when you hear the name Adolf, you might wonder what is wrong with that person or they might be a bad person. There is power in names.
